Step 1 - Find a pair of pants that fit exceptionally well. They must fit properly both in the waist and the length. Trousers loose in the waist hang lower on the body. Using them makes the measurement inaccurate.
Step 2 - Lay the pants on a table, on their right side.
Step 3 - Smooth the trousers flat.
Step 4 - Lift the left leg out of the way and measure from the crotch to the bottom of the right hem.
Step 5 - Take note of the measurement.

Step 6 - Flip the pants over and repeat with the left leg to be sure they are the same.
